Making your Clubs Effort Count

count

As a Rotarian it is important for us to contribute to humanitarian causes. How many times has your Club supported a request for an overseas project and sent off a cheque? Have you collected surplus to requirement goods and sent them to an overseas Club for distribution? or Maybe your club has sent a Rotarian offshore to build or grow something that will make an important difference to a village, a school, a health centre? Do you know how to go about it?

It is not difficult and there are Rotarians and websites already in place to help you.

FORGET ME NOT CHILDRENS HOME

forgetmenot1

The story of the Forget Me Not Childrens Home in Nepal was told to Rotarians of D9640 at the October meeting of RAWCS. In what was an inspiring presentation Rotarian Lars Olsen spoke with passion about this project which was his brainchild in 2006.

The Forget Me Not home focuses on providing a family structure for each of the children in their care. The children are educated in great schools and they are provided with a secure environment where kids are free to be kids.

The program has grown to support projects in Nepal and Uganda, and there is a child sponsorship program available, which offers a unique and personal connection unlike any other.

Samoa Story Synopsis

Gold Coast Rotarians Building Communities Bridging Continents.

19 Rotarians and friends from the rotary clubs of Surfers Sunrise, Lane Cove and Ashmore/Coomera River travelled to Samoa late August to carry out a pre-school building project. It all began many months ago with a new member briefing evening which inspired a new Rotarian to be a silent donor for a request which had been made to the Surfers Sunrise Wheelchair Foundation.

The village of Matafaa in Samoa had been badly impacted by the September 9, 2009 tsunami and were one of many villages in need. A Sunrise member surveyed the village during a cruise which included Samoa and plans were made to pre-build a 12m x 6 metre school room and other items.

The project was unusual (and something of an experiment) drawing Rotarians together from clubs in two districts to finance and undertake a fairly large project in the space of four weeks.
